Stitch Fix #51–The Summer Capsule Fix
First–a confession. I am by NO means a Marie Kondo expert. Nor does my closet resemble anything close to a capsule wardrobe. But, I do get excited by organizing (any other Mamas with me on that? 🙋🏻♀️) and I DO love the idea of minimizing and being able to fit all my clothes in ONE closet…eventually…(a girl can dream, can’t she?) 🤷🏻♀️
So, when I saw this image on Stitch Fix’s IG account, my note practically wrote itself!
My Note
That pic inspired me to ask Kimberly for a 5-item-ready-made-summer capsule set. I was especially excited about the colorful sandals and military-green crops.
LooC #1–RD Style, Bailey44, and Report
Who wears short shorts? Umm…not this Mama. The shorty-short style of these RD Style Chambray Ruffle shorts, is emphasized even more by an odd, high side cut on the thigh. Eeesh! Oh, and if you’re wondering, yes, I pulled these way down to get a decent picture. Let’s talk positives for a sec: color 👍🏼…soft chambray material 👍🏼👍🏼….even the ruffle 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Unfortunately, the short rise and strange side cut were both 👎🏼👎🏼
Verdict: Return….quickly 😉
Luckily, the Report Braided Sandal were a much better fit, all the way around! I tend to not request shoes from Stitch Fix, since shoe sizing varies so much. Kimberly sent these Report sandals in my normal 7.5 and they were a PERFECT fit straight out of the box!! These were SO perfect, in fact, I already own several similar styles. So (in my first Marie Kondo efforts), I decided another pair would be overkill.
Verdict: Return
Kimberly recommended topping the look with this Bailey 44 Cross Front braided halter. It is the perfect summer staple–easy, breezy, and simple. I love the braided straps and how the front hem gives you the tucked-in look without the fuss. The hi-lo cut adds a nice bit of bum coverage, too. 😉 Kimberly sent my typical Stitch Fix size (small), but, this particular tank is rather oversized. I requested an exchange through Stitch Fix, and customer service was able to send an XS in black, which fit much better.
Verdict: Kept the XS
Recommendation: Size DOWN on this top [available in grey and black]
LooC #2–Just Black and Bailey44
Oh my word, friends. You know that mortifying shopping moment where you cannot even leave your dressing room to show friends because the outfit is just…that…bad? But, that’s part of the deal with a Stitch Fix reveal, right? Not every piece is a guaranteed win…and not all pants are guaranteed to go past your knees. 🙈 Case in point: these Just Black skinny capris.
Even though the military green color was 👍🏼 and I was excited for the capri length, the fit was 👎🏼👎🏼. These Just Black skinnies take skinny to the extreme! I’ll just tell myself that the ultra-tight fit is simply a product of brand design….certainly not the nightly Sweet Red 🍷 I’ve been indulging in lately 🤷🏻♀️!
Verdict: Return
Recommendation: Expect to size UP in these capris
The Bailey44 cold-shoulder top–in sharp contrast to the oversized halter–was shockingly tight 😫. Although the top layer appears light and flowy, an internal cami makes the top fit very snug. This layer DOES prevent the white top from being see-through, though, so that’s a ➕. Aside from the double layers, let’s discuss all its other bells & whistles:
*cold shoulder
*tie cuffs
*AND a subtle stripe pattern.
Basically, all of summer’s top trends on one garment. Too much??
Verdict: Return
